Obituary for Cecil R. Evans

Cecil R.  Evans
Cecil Raymond Evans, 83, of Mountainburg, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 in a local nursing home. He was born April 19, 1934 in Stoutland, MO to the late Charles Evans and Ada Medeiros. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Reba Evans of 52 years; a twin brothers, Donald and Ronald Medeiros and a sister, Mary Schalow and a great granddaughter, Casey Hays of Barling. Cecil graduated from Excelsior High School in Norwalk, CA, attended the Tilargi Institute of Chemistry at U.S.C., and was a chemical compounder for National Seal. Cecil owned and operated the “Heirloom” in California for 10 years. He also owned and operated four service stations, 2 in California and 2 in Fort Smith, AR. He worked at Skelly Truck Stop in Alma for 5 years and at Central Mall in Fort Smith for Ed Warmack for 20 years as his operations manager and he was owner of Appleseed Electronics. He retired and moved to Shoal Bay with his wife, Reba. They moved back to Crawford County in 2000 to be near his children. Cecil’s hobby was model airplanes and he had an extensive collection of warbirds. He also graduated from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy.
Cecil was of the Catholic Faith and a member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church at Shoal Creek in New Blaine, AR. He was a former officer with AFOE-CID, a 32 degree Mason at Van Buren Lodge #6 and Royal ARH #3 and Scottish Rite Masonry. He was a 19 year member of Ft. Smith Noon Exchange Club and Knights of Columbus, a Shriner and member of the Eastern Star.
Cecil had many friends, he never met a stranger. His legacy is his 3 children, Masonry and loyalty and honesty.
Funeral service will be 12:00 noon, Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Ocker Chapel of Alma with interment in Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Survivors include his daughter, Corette Cogburn and husband BJ of Mountainburg; two sons,, Charles (Chuck) Evans of Alma and Jim Casey and his wife Mary of Rudy; two grandsons, Kenny Pixley of Rudy and Adam Evans of Alaska; four granddaughters, Angie Morrison and Crystal Collins both of Rudy, Sharla Casey of Barling and Miranda Evans of Alaska and one great granddaughter, Sophie Morrison and one great grandson, Mason Collins both of Rudy; three sisters, Evelyn Peterson and Shirley Kolins both of Texas and two brothers, Bill Medeiros of Las Vegas and Bobby Evans of Cedarville and his buddy, Bubba Bailey.
Pallbearers will be Theo Bland, David Limberg, Randy McClendon, Ronald Walls, Bubba Bailey and Harold Walls.
Honorary pallbearers will be the J and J Restaurant Coffee Friends.
The family will visit with friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Friday evening, March 2, 2018 at Ocker Funeral Home of Alma, 917 Hwy. 64 East, Alma, AR.
Masses will be said for Cecil on April 7 at 8:00 A.M., April 12, 12 Noon and on April 14 at 8:00 A. M. by Father Rick Hobbs at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Van Buren, AR.
