Obituary for Donald Roy Keene

Donald Roy  Keene
Donald “Roy” Keene, 85 of Van Buren, Arkansas passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on February 25, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Waneta, infant son Gerald, parents, Raymond and Gladys, sisters, Lois Opseth and Darlene Dunn and brother, Robert Keene.

Roy is survived by his children, Teresa Clem (Ray) of Latrobe, Pennsylvania; Greg Keene (Lina) of San Diego, California, Karen Keene of Denver, Colorado, Lori Hightower (Todd) of Van Buren, Arkansas. Grandchildren, Jeral Edwards (Clair) of Perryton, Texas, Justin Edwards (Claudia) of Ojai, California; Steven Clem and Daniel Clem of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Ashleigh and Garrett Hightower of Van Buren, Arkansas, Hollie and Taylor Keene of Los Angeles, California; great-grandchildren, King Clem and Jarret Edwards; Adopted daughter Leigh Ann Stinnette (Steve), along with their children, Stevie Shae and Branson and great granddaughter Charleigh Ann Stinnette, and many treasured extended family members.

Roy was born in South Dakota where he met his wife Waneta, after their marriage they made their home in Alliance, Nebraska. Roy worked for Peltz Construction for 40 plus years wearing many hats including Office Manager and Chief Estimator. After he retired Roy and Waneta made their home in Chadron, Nebraska.

He was past president of the Alliance Jaycee’s; member of the Knights of Columbus, Rotary, and the Elks Club. Roy was a very active member of Holy Rosary Church (Alliance, NE), St. Patrick’s (Chadron, NE) and St. Michael’s (Van Buren, AR).

Roy had a passion for the beauty of the outdoors, camping, fishing, and boating with his family and friends. If he wasn’t outside he could be found in his garage tinkering around on his latest construction project.

Roy and Waneta shared the love of cards and it brings peace to their loved ones knowing that they are together again, with friends and family playing a friendly game of bridge.

A memorial mass will be held on March 23, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance, Nebraska.
